Criminal defense marketing for Suffolk County.

Suffolk County is Boston, Chelsea, Revere, and Winthrop. Eight Boston Municipal Court divisions, one district court in Chelsea, about 798,000 people. It is one slice of the larger Metro Boston and Eastern Mass market, with its own courthouses. This page is a stub. I'll add more as I build it out.

Where I draw Suffolk County

One county, one page. Suffolk County has four cities and towns and 797,936 people in the 2020 Census: Boston (675,647), Revere (62,186), Chelsea (40,787), and Winthrop (19,316).

It works differently from the rest of the state. Boston does not have district courts. It has the Boston Municipal Court, with eight divisions spread across the neighborhoods. Winthrop cases go to the East Boston division. Chelsea and Revere share Chelsea District Court. I could not find an official population count for each Boston division, so Boston is shown as one number.

That works out to about 25.5 filings per 1,000 residents, close to double the Norfolk County rate. Suffolk County Superior Court added 1,313 more, about 20% of the statewide Superior Court total.

Caseload figures are new criminal case filings for FY2025 from the Trial Court year-end case filings data set. Population is from the 2020 Census. Filings are counted where the case was filed, not where the defendant lives. Counts change, so confirm before relying on them.
